The Pentecostalism is a global Christian movement that makes a great emphasis on baptism the Holy Spirit on its members, it is also the name given to all religious organizations Pentecostal faith, but does not have an organization that directs all the churches in the world.
Pentecostal Church Pentecostal churches originals, also called classical, are groups of evangelical Christians which aim to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for all nations by miracles, healings and demonstrations given by the Holy Spirit, tongues . His doctrine is shared in most or many points. Is based on four fundamental doctrinal principles:
- Jesus heals.
- Jesus Christ saves.
- Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
- Jesus comes.
The act of speaking in foreign languages or tongues of angels is one of its main features. When a believer speaks for first time in tongues is said to have been baptized with the Holy Spirit and when it does periodically after baptism, is said to have the gift of speaking in tongues.
A Pentecostal church can work independently or be affiliated with a religious organization with broader coverage. A Despite the great diversity of Pentecostal churches and organizations, together, are at the greatest growth in the world with approximately 600 million members and represents over 80% of Protestant churches. In short, the Pentecostal church is part of their almost similar evangelism which currently holds tiny differences like dress, form of worship, etc.
[ edit] General beliefs
Despite the different strands of Pentecostalism and the diversity of religious organizations, among them, can be said to hold four fundamental truths that unite in doctrine .
Jesus Christ saves. Pentecostal churches believe in salvation as a gift or gift received by grace at work only through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and which is received by faith alone. [ 1 ]
Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit. The doctrine that distinguishes Pentecostals from other churches is the emphasis they give to baptism with the Holy Spirit . Along with this doctrine is accepted manifestations of the Spirit of God as the signs, wonders, miracles and gifts that are for the edification of the church and witness to unbelievers. [ 1 ]
Jesus heals. Pentecostal churches believe in divine healing as a promise of Jesus Christ and as an effect of his sacrifice on the cross. Many Pentecostals have experienced healing in their bodies through the prayer of faith. [ 2 ]
Jesus comes. The Pentecostal eschatology focuses on the soon return of Jesus Christ to earth, divided in two parts, the rapture of the church and return after the Great Tribulation. Pentecostal churches do not proclaim any date for this event, but encourage believers to live in consecration, holiness and Christian work. [ 2 ]
Similarly, the Pentecostal churches share similar ideas to other Protestant churches although they vary in their interpretation.
[ edit] Origin of Pentecost
Pentecost, the Greek pentekostos (fifty) is an annual Jewish holiday, also known as the Feast of Weeks, a celebration of first fruits of the harvest. Held fifty days after Easter. [ 3 ] The biblical book of Leviticus describes it as follows:
Pentecostal churches allude to this event as a symbol for all who converted to Christianity on the day of Pentecost would be the first fruits of a vast harvest of millions of souls.

[edit ] The Promise of the Holy Spirit Outpouring About
between 835 and 805 a. C. the land of Judah was hit with a plague of locusts had destroyed the grazing animals and foliage of the trees in just a few hours. All crops failed, famine and drought devastated the country. The prophet Joel to see this terrible period, gave the promise of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit who would be the restoration of all evil had destroyed quel, describing it as follows:
[edit ] The Revelation to John the Baptist
The book of John, mentioned an incident in which he revealed to John the Baptist, who would fulfill the promise to pour out the Holy Spirit upon believers. He says "He who sent me to baptize with water said unto me, Upon whom you see down the Spirit (a dove) and remaining on him, he it is who baptizes with the Holy Spirit." John 1:33 KJV 1960 According to John, the person on whom the Spirit descended was the same way Jesus Christ said in Matthew 3:11 verse that says that John the Baptist bore witness to the one coming after him would baptize with the Spirit Ghost and fire.
[ edit] Jesus Christ and the promise of the Father
After resurrected Jesus Christ commanded his apostles and disciples to stay in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high. (Luke 24:49 KJV 1960) Similarly, in Mark 16:17, Jesus tells his disciples that his name would throw out demons and speak new languages. The book of Acts, the author, Lucas, tells a more specific mandate that Jesus told his disciples reporting it in the following way:
In this chapter of Acts, Jesus said to his followers that what John the Baptist had preached before finally fulfilled within not many days that Jesus call it the promise of the Father.
[edit ] The outpouring
Ten days after Jesus ascended to heaven, came the day of Pentecost, and twenty people were waiting in the room unanimous Promise high that Jesus Christ had done before.
This happened about nine o'clock and there were witnesses of various nationalities such as Medes, Parthians, Africans, Egyptians, Jews, Arabs who heard the Galileans about the wonders of God. But there were many others who thought they were drunk. After this event, the apostle Peter explains Joel's prophecy fulfilled for the Christian church. For many years the outpouring of the Holy Spirit had been reserved exclusively for national and spiritual leaders of Israel, but at that time was granted "all flesh."
[edit ] The New Testament Christian Church
New Testament reports that the first century Church believed in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 11:15-16,). You can also read that the gifts of the Spirit in the early church, including speaking in tongues, were normal and acquaintances. The second-century Christian writers used the Greek word χάρισμα or charisma, which means "present" or "divine gift" to refer to these gifts, that is, the same word he used the apostle Paul in his nine gifts of the Spirit, which was included speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 12). Just as the early Christians practiced the laying on of hands occurs experience Pentecostal believers (Acts 8:14-17). Below are various events made in the Christian churches of the New Testament:
[edit ] Cornelius House
In Acts 10:46, there is a Pentecostal Christian church but not until then. In a vision that the apostle Peter on the roof of a house in Joppa, God revealed to the apostle who should love his fellow men even though they are not Jews, as before God is no respecter of persons. Cornelius a centurion of the Italian, sent for him to come to Caesarea. Peter agreed to go to Caesarea by God's command, and came to the house of Cornelius. When Peter began his speech by the Holy Spirit fell upon those present and began to speak in tongues, magnifying God. Since then the church of the house of Cornelius, was considered Pentecostal.
[edit ] The Church in Ephesus
When the Apostle Paul came to Ephesus, he found a very embarrassing situation. The Christians of that church had been baptized by the baptism of John and did not even know there was a Holy Spirit, then Paul was baptized as commanded by Jesus and when they had laid his hands, came upon them the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues and prophesied. (Acts 19:5 KJV).
[edit ] The Church in Samaria
Peter and John had come to Samaria, where a group of Christians baptized in water, but had not been baptized with the Holy Spirit. That is why Peter and John laid their hands on them and Acts 8:17 (KJV) said they received the Holy Spirit. This is the only passage in Acts which do not specify that believers have spoken in tongues and are of much discussion. However, many modern Pentecostal groups, believe that if they did, as Simon the magician, had wanted to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit to have seen a great wonder, that many theologians assume, was the gift of tongues manifested in the Samaritans.
[ edit] Historical
Before the modern Pentecostal movement, there have been many events Pentecostal features, not even call themselves "Pentecostal."
- 130-202 AD Irenaeus of Lyons C. . "Just as we heard many brothers who have prophetic gifts and through the Spirit speak all kinds of languages and bring light to the benefit of the hidden things of men and declare the mysteries of God, the apostles who were also described as spiritual. " [4 ]
- Tertullian 160-220 AD C. Tertullian while talking to Marcion, said: "That it is prophets as those who have spoken, not human sense, but by the Spirit of God as those who have predicted the future and have revealed secrets the heart, to present a psalm, a vision, a prayer, only to be by the Spirit in an ecstasy, that is, in a rapture or transport, any time an interpretation has occurred. "Tertullian apparently described some of the common life of the Orthodox Church and recommended to seek the gift of the Holy Spirit of prophecy. [4 ]
- Pachomius Pachomius 292-348 AD after moments could, under the power of the Spirit to speak Greek and Latin languages that had never learned. " [5 ]
- Augustine d. 354-430 C. Augustine that referred to: "We still what the apostles did when they laid hands on the Samaritans, invoking upon them the Holy Spirit. By the laying on of hands believers are expected to speak in tongues. " [4 ]
Although there are many records or evidence of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit during the Middle Ages, some authors mention that the Waldenses, Albigenses, and the mendicant friars, spoke in tongues in Southern Europe. [ 6 ]
- The Huguenots 1559. Huguenots was the name given to the Calvinists of France, some of them had spiritual experiences similar to those of the Pentecostal churches of today, such as fair happened in Cevennes Camisards War. Here is a note about the Huguenots:
During the beginnings of Protestantism, Martin Luther was considered a prophet, evangelist, played and was endowed with all spiritual gifts. [ 8 ] From here to say that the Protestant Reformation have influenced a major change for European countries.
One of the main leaders of this church was George Fox, who preached a message about the new era of the Holy Spirit in his diary he says that:
"The year 1648, while sitting at home Notinghamshire a friend (because this time the power of God had opened the hearts of some to receive the word of life and reconciliation), I saw that there a huge crack that went through all the earth, and smoke was great as the crack was his way, after the crack, there was a big jolt. This was the land that was in the hearts of people, which had to be shaken before the seed of God was raised from the grave. And so it was: because the power of God began to shake and large worship services were conducted, so that the Almighty mighty works were wrought among believers to the astonishment of both the people and of the priests. " [9 ]
HussiteWhen Christians were persecuted in Bohemia, found in Dresden, Germany a haven where they could relaizar the search for God.
In 1727 Count Zinzendorf Graf Ludwig began to organize the current Christian believers in one church. During the month of July I think prayer vigils and meetings with youth, then found a book called "Ratio disciplinae" which recounted how the church of Irenaeus was joined for the presence of God. The Moravians say the Spirit descended upon them, and show great signs and wonders were wrought among the brethren in those days, whichever is a wonderful grace among us, and throughout the country. " [10 ]
Anglican priest John Wesley and the father of the Methodist Church, believed that much of early Christianity was out of sight, but dry and formal men began to deride the gifts of which they lacked, classifying them all as exhibitions of insanity or imposture, including Constantine. [ 11 ]
Wesley, records many remarkable stories in their journals, such as health of people, animals, and the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer. [ 12 ]
Methodist churches were preparing the way for the reception of the Holy Spirit in believers, because his preaching was based on the holiness, devotion and salvation by grace, teaching that the Pentecostal churches as very important point to receive Baptism in the Holy Spirit. [ 13 ]

[edit ] The
Great Awakening The Great Awakening was a spiritual phenomenon that hit England and the United States between 1735 and 1750. During this period there were great preachers who influenced the modern Pentecostalism.

It is said that when he went to preach in a town, taverns were empty and during your worship services or meetings, people wailed and cried because of the preaching.
- Carlos G. Finney 1792-1875. was the most prominent Pentecostal minister and representative of the time, make great evangelistic activities. Methodist practices implemented within the Presbyterian and Congregational churches. Wesleyan preaching points and sanctification and Christian perfection achieved only by the Holy Spirit.
- Dwight Lyman Moody 1875. Pentecostal minister who preached in the city of Chicago and New York, he mentioned once that he had a special endowment of power from on high, a clear and unequivocal baptism of the Holy Spirit.

historic Pentecostalism is called, to all Christian churches began to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and practice glossolalia . A brief description:

From 1840 he began preaching about the baptism in the Holy Spirit, His largest contributor was John Morgan, who wrote:? The gift of the Holy Spirit in Pentecostal fullness, should not be restricted to the apostolic church, is the privilege shared by all believers.
[edit ] The Church of God of Cleveland
Chittim Silva says that in the year 1846 a hundred believers were baptized with the Holy Spirit in North Carolina, speaking in tongues. They belonged to a religious group called the Christian Union Holiness Church and in 1907 changed to Church of God. This Church is known as The Church of God, whose offices are its main branches in the city of Cleveland, for being the place where he acquired more strength. www.cogop.org [ 14 ]

classical Pentecostalism is the one that began in 1901 between Christians who met in the Azusa Street in Los Angeles, USA and initially joined the Pentecostal churches in a single Christian organization. Pentecostal power is largest among all the others, it is shaped by religious organizations that were formed in those years and keep spiritual manifestations and similar doctrines. [ 16 ]
[edit ] Charles F. Parham
In 1900 the Rev. Charles F. Parham, a Methodist minister started called Bethel Bible Institute in Topeka, Kansas only for white men. Enrolled about 40 students, of whom 12 had credentials issued by the Methodist Church and the Holiness Movement. On the evening of December 31, 1900 sees the launch of January 1, 1901 the Holy Spirit was poured out on Agnes Ozman, 18, who spoke on new languages. This happened because the students were studying the book of Acts about how was the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. For this reason the director and students began to proclaim the new Pentecostal experience. This experience was the main attraction of the moment for the media. In the first 5 years of training, the Pentecostal Movement was planned in Kansas, Missouri and Texas. [ 17 ]
In 1905 Parham moved his Bible school in Houston, Texas, where he studied William J. Seymour, a one-eyed man colored race, that race conditions of that time was impossible to take classes.
[ edit] William J. Seymour and the Church of the Apostolic Faith
In 1906, William J. Seymour was invited to preach at a Nazarene church. In this he presented a message based on the need for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, without having himself experienced. This enraged members of the church, so they decided to expel him. However, there were some members Nazarenes interested in this new doctrine which it has invited by William Seymour to preach. Later, his preaching was held at the Azusa Street in a small barn that had served earlier for meetings of a local Methodist church. It was here in Los Angeles where the Holy Spirit began to move greatly, with extraordinary demonstrations of various kinds. William Seymour was baptized on April 12, 1906. In this place you could hear people speak in tongues, dancing and praising God greatly. Many media outlets of that time were present and developed reports the facts. This famous stall was later called the Apostolic Faith Mission, and brought together believers of all races. Worship services were continuous day and night, there were no racial differences, or discrimination, much less prejudice.
On April 18, 1906, Los Angeles Times published an article about this movement in its first page. Before the third week of April 1906, the few, but growing followers of Pentecostalism had rented an abandoned church in the African Methodist Episcopal Church at 312 Azusa Street and were organized as the Apostolic Faith Mission, as before this, had been born in your heart to practice those things that the Apostles of Jesus had practiced since they were written in the Book of Acts of the Apostles. Apostolic Mission served as the cradle for many of the major organizations of today's Pentecostal orientation, such as the Assemblies of God, Cudrangular Gospel church, the Church of God Full Gospel Apostolic Church of Faith in Jesus Christ and United Pentecostal Church. [ 18 ]
[edit ] The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in other places
Similarly at this time, there were other revivals in Wales , Britain the year 1904, led by Evan Roberts, who was at the beginning of Pentecostalism in the Azusa Street .
Due to the interest of Pentecostalism was born in the Azusa Street began to get members of other Christian denominations from the United States, Canada and Europe. Most of these people experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit and decided to return to their places of origin carried this doctrine.
This classic Pentecostalism began to spread everywhere, and with it, created the first religious organizations of this trend.

[ edit] Oneness Pentecostalism
In 1914, many independent Pentecostal churches, identified the need to encompass and unite all the churches of the same faith and were called to a meeting in Hot Springs, where he conducted its first council, thus forming a major Pentecostal organizations world's largest, the Assemblies of God American .
However, in the year 1916, a group of pastors of churches within the Assemblies of God had some divine revelation, where God revealed through the Bible passages that the water baptism should be done in the name of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Book of Acts and other New Testament books , and not in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Also, they proclaimed the Oneness of God , saying that Jesus Christ was the same Lord the Old Testament manifest in the flesh, denouncing the Trinidad as a false doctrine. The leaders of the organization asked these pastors who rectractaran of his doctrine, but instead they decided to leave the Assemblies of God together with their temples, and decided to form a new organization called Pentecostal Church International United .
worth mentioning that this same doctrine emerged in the second and third centuries AD Patripassianism call as denying the dogma of the Trinity to be considered the same as three manifestations of a single divine being, arguing that it was none other than God the Father who had come to Earth and had suffered on the cross in the guise of the Son.
This doctrine, which is considered heretical in 261 after being convicted by the Council of Alexandria, is also known as Sabellianism to be their principal advocate Sabellius Bishop.
In Puerto Rico, the Assemblies of God played a role in the sense that its missionary John L. Lugo, Credentialed minister of the Assemblies of God, and guided by this organization was procesente from Hawaii to Puerto Rico, having gone through the Temple Synagogue in NY, who helped her with gifts. Upon arrival in Puerto Rico in 1916, began the work in Ponce and the 1920-21 work was organized at the State Department, under the name: PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF GOD, INC. The Catholic Movement Charismatic
The Catholic Charismatic Movement born in a prayer retreat held from 17 to 19 February 1967 between students at Duquesne University , Pittsburg, USA . [ 19 ]
The Roman Catholic Church in Second Vatican Council, rejected any involvement in the ecumenical movement. [20 ] This involved recognizing the historic Protestant, evangelical and Orthodox as "separated brethren ". Similarly, in its Dogmatic Constitution on the Church says:
This movement is not independent of the Catholic Church, but it is a spiritual movement within it, which seeks to renew Catholic spirituality through personal experience receiving a call Outpouring of the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit is given to Christian baptism. One Baptism, water and spirit. Usually this occurs in a context of common prayer, and those who are organizing mass meetings (especially evangelism, praise and worship) to God. Have the same beliefs that the Catholic Church , they are part of it in the form total. And stressing the word renew, for there is nothing new for the delivery and Church of the Holy Spirit.
However, the classical Pentecostal churches, consider the fact that the Catholic Church continues to have devotion to saints, venerate images and praise to the Virgin Mary would imply that it is not the genuine Holy Spirit acts within it . This is because following the ideas of the Reformation Pentecostals are iconoclastic, and consider the sin of necromancy and idolatry Catholic beliefs about the saints and images. Most Latin American Pentecostal churches, believes that the spirit that leads the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, is a deceptive spirit. And based on biblical texts like the following to say so:
Moreover, the Catholic Church honors and loves everything that is good and admirable among Pentecostal Christians especially in certain aspects. The issues in question are his passion to win souls to Christ, their dynamic organization, openness to novelty, and vibrant way of proclaiming the Gospel. However, by the way we conceive and experience the constitution of the Church as sacramental, hierarchical and historical, can not share all elements of classical Pentecostalism as these are born of the thesis of the nineteenth century American evangelicalism.
In this sense, Catholics claim that the Church founded by Jesus Christ historically the beginning of the Christian era is the one that produced the Scriptures in the fourth century, assisted by the Holy Spirit to choose the books of the biblical and copying throughout the Middle Ages the texts of the Bible . In this sense, rely on this text:
For Catholics, as mentioned in this Pauline text, the Church is the pillar of truth, and from which springs his word.
Statistics Pentecostalism
By 1909 the Pentecostal movement makes his arrival in Latin America , expand with growing strength, especially in countries Caribbean, North and South America and Brazil. Pentecostalism has grown divided, making it possible to find countless small churches and denominations apparently unconnected, but following similar principles.
In Peru, with the arrival of Rev. Rodolfo Gonzalez in 1981, the world missionary movement spreads across all regions, using 96 radio and 42 television channels themselves, so that society Peru is undergoing a major social and economic transformation.
Over time churches have emerged nationally, totally disconnected from the Pentecostal Churches United States, and even churches are "hybrid", that integrate religious elements drawn from Christianity Protestant, Catholic even other non-Christian religions. An example is the so-called "Church of the Holy Spirit Strong Prayer" ( Universal Church of the Kingdom of God ), born in Brazil . But the Christian Church Pentecostal Church rejects these hybrids, considering this doctrine as false and to link their pastors to enrichment based on promises of healing.
Since Pentecostalism is a movement that has permeated various Christian churches, both Protestant tradition as a Catholic. In Catholicism Pentecostalism known as Charismatic Renewal, with a growing number of followers, especially in Latin America .
